TNF and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: The salient findings of this study are: (1) many genes (both protein-coding and lncRNA genes) are differentially expressed in both subtypes of NAFLD patients compared to the healthy normal weight and obese individuals; (2) the overlap of differentially expressed genes between two independent studies are low, possibly due to the heterogeneity of affected cells in biopsy samples used for RNA-seq experiments; (3) the NAFLD-related lncRNA, LINC01639, is involved in the regulation of genes related to apoptosis, TNF/TGF and cytokine signaling, growth factors, as well as genes upregulated in NAFLD.
