Functional studies have reported that the knockdown of Lef1 and Dlx3 in mice results in the complete disappearance of antennal hair follicles; Lef1 knockdown lead to cessation of dorsal skin follicle growth [19], and Dlx3 itself knockdown affected the formation of the hair shaft and inner root sheaths within the hair follicles of mice, which later leads to embryonic lethality or very severe alopecia after birth [20]. This evidence concerns the gene LEF1 and alopecia.
