The key findings from our study were that (1) immunization of mice with ChimT, with saponin or MPLA adjuvants generated a specific Th1-type immune response with proliferation of T cells and protected them against infection with L.infantum and (2) ChimT stimulated the production by ex vivo human immune cells of high levels of IFN-γ and low levels of IL-10, cardinal signals of a Th1-type immune profile. Here, IL10 is linked to infection.
