Yu et al. [91] reported that the pomegranate ellagic acid could promote lipid metabolism, reduce intracellular lipid levels, and inhibit the activities of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and glucose-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH) thereby inhibiting the formation of fat in adipocytes, upregulating the PPARγ and adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein (aP2) levels, and down-regulating the obesity gene ob [90]. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
