Similarly genetic epidemiological studies [40,41] focusing on genetic variants (rs671/rs1229984) within the aldehyde/alcohol dehydrogenase (ALDH2/ADH1B) gene demonstrated that individuals carrying the risk allele for alcohol consumption had a higher risk of hypertension [40,41] and CVD [40] compared to non-carriers. The gene discussed is ADH1B; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
