Buchholz et al. [77] showed in their research that methanolic extracts and aqueous extracts from roselle flowers are able to, to a similar degree, inhibit the activity of pancreatic lipase that is responsible for fat digestion, which may suggest that roselle may reduce the risk of overweight and/or obesity and the likelihood of developing diabetes as a complication of obesity [77]. This evidence concerns the gene PNLIP and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
