The discovery of mutational drivers of carcinogenesis specific to each cancer type (i.e., BRCA-1/-2 for breast cancer, EGFR or KRAS for lung cancer, TP53 and RB1 for pancreatic cancer) has provided novel targets for blood-based fine-tuned molecular detection of specific tumors (breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, thyroid cancer, and lung cancer) [24,25,26,27,28]. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is breast carcinoma.
