INS and hypertriglyceridemia: It could be divided into an early anabolic phase, which occurs in the first two trimesters of gestation and is characterized by the increase in maternal fat depots facilitated by insulin, and a later catabolic phase, which occurs during the third trimester and is characterized by increased maternal adipose tissue breakdown, hypertriglyceridemia as a result of insulin resistance and estrogen and other placental hormonal effects [27,28].
