Specifically, LRG1 is composed of 312 amino acids (66 of which are leucine), containing eight leucine-rich repeats (LRR), four N-linked, one O-linked glycosylation site and two disulphide bonds; this glycoprotein is produced both systemically and at the local tissue level after various inflammatory stimuli, such as infections, injuries and mediators of the acute-phase response (namely CRP, tumor necrosis factor-α or interleukin-6) [3,21,22].
