To our knowledge, this is the first cross-sectional study to show a positive and significant association between specific plasma ceramides (which have been associated with increased cardiovascular risk [12,15,19,20]) and circulating levels of LRG1, which is a novel and multifunctional proinflammatory signaling molecule, in a sample of postmenopausal women with metabolically well-controlled T2DM. This evidence concerns the gene LRG1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
