Since autolysin-mediated eDNA-dependent biofilms are also observed in other species [11,40,41], and several bacterial species carry PrsA homologues, the results obtained in this study could provide important information not only about the pathogenesis of S. mutans-induced IE, but could also enhance understanding of mechanisms associated with other infectious diseases that involve biofilm formation. The gene discussed is GLRX5; the disease is infectious disease.
