BDNF and Focal cortical dysplasia: In the cortical area of patients with focal cortical dysplasia, both the mRNA and protein levels of TRPC6 and BDNF were increased compared to that of normal control cortex; higher expression of calmodulin-dependent kinase IV (CaMKIV) which is the downstream molecule of TRPC6 was observed in the lesion area (Zheng et al., 2016); most TRPC6-positive cells were glutamatergic neurons which were excitatory.
