The present observation that oxidative metabolism is compromised microglia from female APP/PS1 mice together with our previous result indicating a shift toward glycolysis in these cells, provide a plausible explanation for the decrease in phagocytosis in microglia of APP/PS1 mice, particularly females, contributing to the sex-related increase in amyloidosis (Gallagher et al., 2013; Guillot-Sestier et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene PSEN1 and amyloidosis.
