The potential of SP-D acting as an immunosurveillance molecule in PCa was subsequently demonstrated by our group with the use of a recombinant fragment of human SP-D (rfhSP-D) comprising 8 Gly-X-Y repeats trimeric neck and CRD that selectively induced intrinsic apoptosis in human prostate biopsy explants as well as in human prostate cancer cells including androgen-responsive LNCaP and androgen-resistant PC3 (16).
