IL-10 is mainly known as an anti-inflammatory cytokine, especially in chronic diseases such as (not conclusive) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (11), tuberculosis (12), rheumatoid arthritis (13), etc. IL-10 may actually modulate the production of inflammatory cytokines to reduce the risk of tissue damage (14–16). This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
