Drug-induced AKIs are often avoidable and so are potentially the easiest aetiologies to manage: Laville et al.’s prospective, multicentre study of the CKD-REIN cohort showed that 40% of drug-induced AKIs due to renin-angiotensin system drugs and 33% of drug-induced AKIs due to diuretics were avoidable or potentially avoidable (Olivier et al., 2005). The gene discussed is REN; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
