VDR and diabetes mellitus: Vit D can control the generation of free radicals and to reduce oxidative stress depending on the type of cell, which may be either by binding to VDR in the nucleus or through the hydrophobic parts of Vit D. In liver cells of mice with diabetes, Vit D plays an important role in controlling the generation of free radicals by binding to the VDR in the cell nucleus (Labudzynskyi et al. 2015).
