Interestingly, 1 previous publication reported increased plasma endothelin‐1 concentrations in takotsubo cardiomyopathy,13 however half of their cohort had comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, or were smokers and they were significantly medicated (a third were on angiotensin‐converting enzyme and angiotensin II blockers and a third on beta‐blockers) – in contrast to our takotsubo cardiomyopathy cohort who were free of any comorbidities and on no medication. The gene discussed is AGT; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
