CRP and diabetes mellitus: In a meta-analysis that included 30 studies, older age, male gender, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, hypertension, diabetes and laboratory findings such as lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia and high C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, alanine aminotransferase and creatine kinase levels were found to be associated with poor prognosis.16 CRP, ferritin, platelet, leukocyte and erythrocyte counts have been recommended as markers showing the severity of hyperinflammation.15
