GFAP and Parkinson disease: Jiang et al. reported that after puerarin treatment the expression level of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP, a marker for astrocyte activation) and iNOS was decreased, and that dopaminergic neuron loss in the SN was rescued in an MPTP-induced PD mouse model, indicating that puerarin may be a promising dopaminergic neuroprotective drug [55].
