It has been shown that those micro-RNAs that are hyporegulated in gliomas compared to normal brain tissues, function as tumor suppressors, directly acting on the oncogenes c-Met, Notch, Bmi-1, EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor), receptor tyrosine kinases, as well as genes associated with the control of the cell cycle.
