PDCD1 and melanoma: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), represented by cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) inhibitors, programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors, and programmed cell death protein ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors, have transformed cancer treatment since ipilimumab was first approved for melanoma in 2011 (1).
