In an attempt to disentangle the contribution of microglia vs. macrophages to neuroinflammation in schizophrenia, we measured multiple transcripts that are typically associated with microglia (Hexb, CD11c, IBA1, CD68), pro-inflammatory macrophages (CD64) anti-inflammatory macrophages (CD206, M2b: CD86, IL-10), the macrophage scavenger receptor CD163, and immune cell chemokines (CCL2, IL-8) (Figure 8). The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is schizophrenia.
