Indeed, we recently found elevated mRNA and protein levels of the macrophage marker CD163 in the brains of people with schizophrenia, and this increase was associated with changes in endothelial gene expression (Cai et al., 2018; Purves-Tyson et al., 2020; Weissleder et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene CD163 and schizophrenia.
