In contrast to the patterns of expression observed for the microglial transcripts, Hexb, CD11c, IBA1, and CD68, we found that mRNAs expressed by microglia and/or astrocytes, TSPO, and GFAP, were elevated in high inflammation schizophrenia compared to low inflammation schizophrenia, suggesting astrocytes may be more actively involved in the inflammation process in schizophrenia. The gene discussed is CD68; the disease is schizophrenia.
