CCL2, coming from either myeloid cells or astrocytes (Kim et al., 2014; Moreno et al., 2014), can influence the differentiation of tissue macrophages and promotes the production of proinflammatory cytokines including IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α (Yang et al., 2011; Gschwandtner et al., 2019) which are all elevated in the brains of people with high inflammation schizophrenia (Fillman et al., 2013, 2014).
