While we do not know if the actual number of inflammatory monocytes in brain (which express high levels of CCR2) in high inflammation schizophrenia is similar to other neuroinflammatory diseases including multiple sclerosis, ischemic brain injury, and traumatic brain injury (Arakelyan et al., 2005; Semple et al., 2010), this is an important question for future comparative research. This evidence concerns the gene CCR2 and schizophrenia.
