CD163 and schizophrenia: Though CD163 is often used as a macrophage marker, it cannot reliably differentiate between macrophage phenotypes (Roberts et al., 2004; Kim et al., 2006; Holfelder et al., 2011; Zhang et al., 2011, 2012; Lisi et al., 2017) and is thus not useful in distinguishing macrophage type changes in high inflammation schizophrenia.
