Impaired attention in older adults has previously been associated with the locus coeruleus, a section of the brainstem (Lee et al., 2018), which has been reported as one of the earliest sites of tau pathology and a key brain region involved in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (Giorgi et al., 2019). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
