PGF and fetal growth restriction: Maternal circulating proangiogenic placental growth factor (PlGF) and antiangiogenic soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) may be seen as “placenta health markers”, since altered levels of these proteins and their ratio are associated with placenta dysfunction syndromes like preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction [1], as well as with other cases of increasing placental cellular (syncytiotrophoblast) stress [2–4].
