Several research groups have evaluated the relevance of ALS genes to RNA metabolism, revealing that mutations in TDP-43 (Tollervey et al., 2011; Barmada et al., 2015; Russo et al., 2017; Donde et al., 2019; Coyne et al., 2021), FUS (Barmada et al., 2015) and C9orf72 (Donnelly et al., 2013; Lee et al., 2013) induce pathogenic RNA metabolic changes in ALS. The gene discussed is TARDBP; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
