The close functional bond of proteins ATXN1, ATXN1L and CIC, and the additional three cases with ATXN1/ATXN1L-associated fusions reported here support expanding the CIC-rearranged sarcoma entity to include ATXN1/ATXN1L-rearranged sarcomas ("CIC-altered sarcomas” as suggested by Pratt et al. [5]). The gene discussed is ATXN1; the disease is sarcoma.
