AQP1 and Cirrhosis: Rats with induced cirrhosis in the current investigation showed significant increase in the renal gene expression of sodium–hydrogen antiporter 1 (NHE-1) and aquaporin-1 compared to normal rats (p < 0.001), Fig. 6A. All tested doses of At-rt failed to significantly decrease renal expression of either NHE-1 or aquaporin-1 compared to untreated positive control rats (p > 0.05), indicating that this is not the mechanism that accounts for its diuretic effect.
