TARDBP and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Loss of RAD-23, a homolog of the human HRAD23A and HR23B proteins that serve as accessory proteins in the damage recognition step of NER and in coupling of NER-mediated DNA repair to the ubiquitin/proteasomal system (UPS), protects motor neurons and improves movement disorders by enhancing the clearance of TDP-43 and SOD-1 aggregation in a C. elegans ALS model (Jablonski et al., 2015).
