Lovastatin, a β-hydroxy-β-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor, activated Akt/Nrf2 pathway and inhibited the downstream gene GSK3β activity and further protected neurite degeneration in LRRK2-G2019S parkinsonism (Lin et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene LRRK2 and Parkinson disease.
