Although there is no clear evidence to show whether the cGAS-STING pathway is involved in dry eye, based on the current research, we speculate that the cGAS-STING pathway may be a new mechanism that causes dry eye, and targeting the cGAS-STING pathway might be potential therapeutic strategy, which could pave the way for precision treatments and drug development of dry eye and is worthy of further study. This evidence concerns the gene STING1 and Keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
