One study in Asian Indian adults (n = 1618) reported that fiber intake and fat mass obesity gene (FTO) SNPs had a significant influence on BMI and WC (pinteraction = 0.0008), where participants with high fiber intake (44 g/day) had a lower BMI (p = 0.07) and lower WC (p = 0.02) [73]. The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
