TNF and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: In the spinal cords of ALS mice chronically treated (from presyptomatic stage of the disease) with fenretinide at low oral doses (5 mg/kg), Skinner observed increased DHA/AA ratio, decreased lipid peroxidation and gliosis (the hallmarks of neuroinflammation in ALS) and a significant reduction in the expression of TNF-α and iNOS proinflammatory mediators.
