Although ~25% of the population are APOE4 carriers, they make up approximately 50% of sporadic AD cases [1], with the odds of developing AD being 2–3-times higher and over 10-times higher in APOE4 heterozygotes (APOE24 and APOE34) and homozygotes (APOE44), respectively [2,3,4]. This evidence concerns the gene APOE and Alzheimer disease.
