Despite the P2X receptor having been verified to be involved in a broad range of physical performance disturbances, including hypertension, bladder incontinence, chronic cough, inflammatory and immune disorders, megrim, pain, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), epilepsy, atherosclerosis, depressive disorder, diabetes mellitus, and cancer, purinergic receptors have been seldom considered and involved in the development of exploiting novel molecules, or new tools from animal toxins that modulate ion channels [47,48,49,50,51,52,53,54,55]. This evidence concerns the gene P2RX3 and irritable bowel syndrome.
