In an ovariectomized Wistar rat model of depression induced by CUMS, vitamin D3 (5 mg/kg for 4 weeks; s.c.)treatment was able to reverse depression-like behaviors in the sucrose preference test and the forced swimming test by increasing BDNF and NT-3/NT-4 levels in the hippocampus [76]. Here, BDNF is linked to depressive symptom measurement.
