Wharton jelly-MSCs (WJ-MSCs) seem to have great potential in the treatment of kidney diseases due to the improvement of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and tubular function, downregulation of CD68-positive cell count and nuclear factor-kB (NFkB), upregulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), vascular endothelial growth factor and Klotho genes that are associated with fibroblast growth factor expression, and attenuation of renal apoptosis [9].
