Our results show that mitochondrial superoxide is overproduced in CRC cells and that the levels of SOD1, SOD3, and catalase are reduced following AF8c treatment; this implies that AF8c may promote ROS generation, especially that of mitochondrial superoxide, by disrupting the mitochondrial electron transport chain and reducing the levels of antioxidant enzymes. This evidence concerns the gene CAT and colorectal carcinoma.
