TERT and cancer: The lecture highlighted the higher telomerase activity in most stages of HPV-related cancers, which is however functionally associated to the high levels of the viral E6 oncogene in the early stages of cancer progression, and later to the acquisition of mutations in the TERT promoter region, as preliminarily reported in HPV-related cancers [4] and in Hepathocellular Carcinoma (HCC) [5, 6].
