CYCS and leiomyoma: Besides the aforementioned mechanisms, SB was also reported to exhibit its antiproliferative effect and apoptosis inductive effect by causing the release of cytochrome c from mitochondrial into the cytosol, with a subsequent increase in caspase-3-like activity and causing a decrease in BCL-2 protein in leiomyoma cells, all of this contributing to its anti-uterine fibroid activity (Lee et al., 2006; Kim et al., 2008).
