The study found that 42% of the association between visceral fat and OSA in the adolescents was mediated by interleukin-6 (IL-6) (P = 0.03), and that 82% of the association was mediated by C-reactive protein (CRP) (P = 0.01), suggesting that inflammation is a mediator in the causal relationship between body fat and SA (41). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
