The glucose-lowering potential of polyphenols has been evidenced in several acute and chronic models, and in healthy and diabetic organisms, showing effects similar to hypoglycemic drugs, and therefore they are potential candidates to control glucose homeostasis and act as a medicine alternative to T2D.17 Previously, we have shown, in mice fed high-fat-diet and supplemented with eriocitrin, a significant decrease in glucose and triacylglycerol and improvement of insulin sensitivity, associated with less oxidative stress and systemic inflammation, promoted by this citrus flavonoid.18 Here, INS is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
