A recent study demonstrated a clear link between Severe acute respiratory syndrome associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV)-induced tissue damage in the skin and lungs of COVID-19 patients to the activation of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS- stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway and type I IFN signaling (58, 59). The gene discussed is STING1; the disease is COVID-19.
