This was paralleled by increased levels of various chemokines such as pro-inflammatory CCL-2 and CXCL-10 mainly in CSF of BoDV-1 patients, and most strikingly by the angiogenetic factor/neutrophil attractant IL-8, likely reflecting ongoing attraction of immune cells to the site of infection and further contributing to inflammation and tissue damage. The gene discussed is CXCL10; the disease is infection.
