As activated T cells are known to be preferentially susceptible to infection (Stevenson et al., 1990), we also compared expression levels of activation markers on the WGALow and WGAHigh cells, and found that six markers of T cell activation (HLADR, CD69, CD38, CD25, CD28, and ICOS) were all elevated on the latter population (Figure 6F). The gene discussed is CD28; the disease is infection.
