We have shown earlier that adiposity, WAT inflammation, fasting blood glucose levels, fasting serum insulin levels, and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) scores all increase significantly in WT mice fed normal chow ad libitum and housed in a standard cage at 1 year of age as compared with young animals (4–5 months of age), whereas mice that are hypomorphic for HIF-P4H-2 (Hif-p4h-2gt/gt) are protected from these increases (16). The gene discussed is INS; the disease is Insulin resistance.
