In PD animal models, TREM2 deficiency aggravates α-syn-induced neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, and its overexpression remarkably attenuates neuroinflammation and protects DA neurons, indicating TREM2 may contribute to microglial recognition and endocytosis of α-syn (Ren et al., 2018; Zhang et al., 2018; Guo et al., 2019).
