Our results elicited significant difference between cases and control regarding serum creatinine and urea (p<.001) and although NGAL is a known marker of kidney injury, we assume that its rise in our cases is attributed to sepsis itself as we basically recruited cases with serum creatinine level less than 1.5 mg/dl which is the known cut-off value for AKI in neonates [16]. Here, LCN2 is linked to acute kidney injury.
