Proinflammatory cytokines like IL-17A and IFN-γ can induce hypertension by altering the reabsorption of sodium through its transporters: sodium-hydrogen exchanger-3 (NHE3), sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter (NKCC) and sodium-chloride cotransporter (NCC) on the renal tubules (Kamat et al., 2015). The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
