KCNQ1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Activators of KCNQ1 are important compounds as they may have pathophysiological and therapeutic importance given the consequences of KCNQ1/KCNE ion channel dysfunction, which include sudden cardiac death, seizures, loss of cochlear K+ recycling, decreased gastrointestinal motility, type 2 diabetes, and renal dysfunction7–9.
