In both disease models, there were considerably larger amounts of proinflammatory immune cells in the joint (Fig. 4A) and the colon (Fig. 4D) tissues of WT mice than in those of NAC1−/− animals (arrows), suggesting that weakened immune response may account for the insusceptibility of NAC1−/− mice to induction of autoimmunity.
